Speed is the worst enemy of quality

Making wine means having patience! Climate, soil and terroir, grape variety and style of wine… a multitude of factors – some of them beyond the winemaker’s control – play into shaping the wine. Sandra and Karl Pronegg cultivate five hectares of Pinot blanc, Morillon, Sauvignon blanc, Muscatel and Pinot gris.

“It is important to us to work in harmony with nature. Right now we are in the midst of transformation to organic winemaking.” The grapes are meticulously harvested by hand, which garantuees high quality source material. Spontaneous fermentation and ample time given to the wines until they are being bottled provide the basis for a product of the highest possible naturalness. Each vintage brings new challenges and satisfactions. In recent years the winery has also been experimenting with alternative styles of wine. Especially this type of vinification of Pinot gris, Sauvignon blanc and Morillon yields exciting nuances to please nose and palate. What a delight!

Visitors in search of repose and serenity in Southern Styria have the choice of eight vinters’ guest rooms, breakfast on the terrace and a host of idyllic retreats in the estate’s vicinity. The guests’ only trouble may be the agony of choice between sweet idleness and the adventurous exploration of the surroundings.
