Jana Pavlec (*1979, Czechoslovakia) studied photography at the Fotoacademie Amsterdam and won the 2015 award for best portfolio. Her graduation portfolio was a photographic socio-documentary dealing with the region of Chanov in Northern Bohemia. In 2016 Pavlec was nominated as one of the 100 most important emerging photographers in the Netherlands. She participated in exhibitions in Amsterdam, Bologna, Budapest, Prague and Graz. Her work focuses on documenting the lives of social outsiders and marginal groups by telling their stories in their natural setting. Through her works of so-called visual poetry, Pavlec immerses herself deeply into her dream worlds in search of the true self, of a refuge from the outside world.
