Get to know the South Styrian Wine Route!

The history of the Maitz Winery began 70 years ago.
Josef and Maria Maitz bought the Rebenburg, a winery in Ratsch. At the same time, a road was being built in the region, which was named the South Styrian Wine Route – die Südsteirische Weinstraße – and opened in 1955.
A lot has happened since then. Today, eleven hectares of vineyards are cultivated on five individual plots at the winery in Ratsch an der Weinstraße. Half of the vineyards are planted with Burgundy vines, which are mainly rooted in coral limestone. The other half of the vineyards – mostly limestone-marl soils – are planted with Sauvignon Blanc and Muscat. Biodiverse agriculture and long ageing with natural yeasts in wooden barrels promote wines of origin with artisanal elegance.
Directly on the winery, the Maitz family, under the management of Carina Kaiser, Wolfgang’s partner, runs a restaurant. Here, passion and joie de vivre come first. Authentic dishes allow guests to relax, enjoy themselves and linger. The fact that fellow winegrowers are often found among the guests has to do with the restaurant’s wine selection. The magnificent wine list includes the estate’s own wines, regional wines and exciting European wines.

Those who stay overnight here will find peace and inspiration in the wine hotel, the Krois holiday apartments or the Schusterberg holiday home.
Enjoy the Maitz Winery with all its possibilities: this is authentic South Styrian culture!
