Winery Pronegg-Kristeindl
The greatest enemy of quality is haste!
Making wine requires patience. Climate, soil and location, grape variety, wine style – many factors, some of which cannot be influenced, play a role. Sandra and Karl grow Welschriesling, Pinot Blanc, Morillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Muscat and Pinot Gris on five hectares of vineyards.
‘Working in harmony with nature is important to us,’ says Karl. The estate is run organically. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand. Careful work in this area guarantees high-quality raw materials. Spontaneous fermentation and plenty of time for the wines to mature before bottling are the basis for a product that is as natural as possible.
Each vintage is a new challenge and a great pleasure, especially since this winery has been experimenting with alternative wine styles. Grape varieties such as Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Morillon bring exciting nuances to the nose and palate in this style of winemaking. Those who enjoy sparkling wines should try Pet Nat, a traditional sparkling wine produced by a single fermentation in the bottle.
For people looking for a holiday without a lot of fuss but with a high relaxation factor, the Kristeindl farm has eight winegrower’s rooms furnished with great attention to detail. Breakfast on the terrace, plenty of quiet spots in and around the farm, a huge selection of things to do (culinary, wine-related, sporting…) in the region. Relax and do nothing or explore the surroundings – whatever you decide as a guest, every decision is the right one!
Embassy wine:
Pet Nat 2024 BIO
Welschriesling and Muskateller, two typical Styrian varieties, come together here to create an exciting fruity experience. Pet Nat, short for Petillant Naturel, means naturally sparkling. Grape must is bottled unfiltered during fermentation. The remaining yeast converts the residual sugar into alcohol and carbon dioxide, creating a natural effervescence. After fermentation is complete, the settled yeast is removed (= disgorging), leaving a slight cloudiness. Pet Nat tastes young and also when mature;
Alc 11.0% vol., acidity 7.5 g/l, residual sugar 0.3 g/l
