Winery Polz
Great wine makes moments timeless
In 1912, when Rilke wrote his Duino Elegies and the RMS Titanic sank in the North Atlantic, Johann Polz laid the foundation for a winery in southern Styria.
Today, the fourth generation is working to bring the idea of excellence to the glass.
Erich Polz Jr. has been running the business since 2020. His brother Christoph is responsible for the cellar and vinification. Empathetic, calm, with great confidence in every grape. This is because every single fruit at the Polz winery is hand-picked and embarks on the venerable path to its delightful destiny. It doesn’t matter whether it’s lively regional wines full of vitality or the finest possible wines matured to perfection. The passion is for manual labour.
For many years now, and even more so in the future, the focus has been on sustainability. Whether it’s the gentle pruning that has been practised for over a decade, the complete renunciation of insecticides or the careful conversion of all vineyards to organic cultivation, which is currently underway.
Craftsmanship is also important at the wine tavern with the apt name ‘&ZEIT’: wherever possible, they produce their own goods on site or buy from excellent producers and markets.
